Taking good care of your appliances and dental prostheses is the best way to ensure that they function properly and last for a long time. When you complete your treatment, Dr. Ben B. Ross will provide you with detailed instructions on the best ways to care for your appliances. Here are a few tips for caring for your appliances and prostheses:

  • Dental Bridges – Cleaning your bridge can be tricky. We recommend that you purchase floss with a nylon threader to reach under the tooth. If there is enough space between the teeth, you can also use an interproximal brush. Water flossers are also a great choice for cleaning dental bridges, as they can be just as effective as string floss.
  • Dental Crowns – You should care for your dental crown just as you would your natural teeth. Brush at least twice a day, and floss daily to remove plaque and calculus deposits. Continue to visit the dentist regularly so that any problems can be quickly diagnosed and treated. If your permanent crown comes off, contact your dentist immediately.
  • Dentures and Partials – Make sure to keep your denture and your mouth as clean as possible. If you do not take proper care of your appliance and your mouth, you can damage your gums. You should clean your appliance daily and keep it in water when you are not wearing it. Use a soft toothbrush and toothpaste to brush all surfaces of your denture or partial. We also recommend soaking your dentures in warm water with a denture-cleaning tablet for at least 30 minutes.
